About the Author
Robert Anemone is a biological anthropologist (Ph.D. 1988, University of Washington) with research interests in primate paleontology, growth and development and life history of hominoids, and functional anatomy of living and fossil prosimian primates. He has an active vertebrate paleontology research program in the Paleocene and Eocene of the Great Divide Basin in southwestern Wyoming, where he has been leading field crews since 1994. Before coming to Western Michigan University in 1998, he taught at Tulane University and at the State University of New York at Geneseo.

Get Ready to Change the Way You Manage Your Career and Watch It Take Off With This Book!

The amount of advice available about finding your career is as abundant as parenting advice, medical advice and fitness advice. A simple Google search shows 453,000,000 results that include untold amounts of links to "do your passion", "work at home", and "get your subscription here"! The problem is that most of the advice is out-dated and worthless, except for the job services selling their wares.

In this book Olivia Gamber approaches your career from outside the mold of "go to school, send out resumes, go to interviews, wait to be hired". The old approach of being good at your job is crushed in this sentence near the start of the book. "Unfortunately, just being good at your job isn’t enough in today’s highly competitive environment; you also have to build relationships, be able to navigate complex corporate matrices, and develop many other key skills."

Further, whether you're searching for your first job or you're a grizzled veteran seeking a change, here are sentences that really popped out at me early in the book. Stop Wasting Your Time Submitting 10 Resumes Per Day - This Gives You A Better Way

I enjoyed how Olivia offers a different set of career advice. Frankly, I'm tired of hearing advice to follow your passion to the promised land because it's just not like that for people. They don't know how to find their passion. And even when they can find it, they may have 3 major passions. Or one that has a market rate of $10,000 per year. That old (yet still so common) advice just gets people stuck. That's the great thing about this book. It's different from the "follow your passion" bandwagon.

She gives you a better approach for leading into your career transition with another focus.

I also love how she gets candidates unstuck by focusing on their marketing rather than their credentials. And she teaches you to stop wasting your time blasting out oodles of resumes. And she flips the purpose of a cover letter around to the WHY YOU part of the equation. Lots of great advice in here.

If you are serious about advancing in your career - and especially about finding the job that you know WITHOUT A DOUBT is going to be right for you on a personal and professional level - then the system that the author, Olivia Gamber, sets out here is what is going to get you there.
Fast, not without effort, but with a focused, crafted plan that will have you shaking your head, saying 'But of course. Why doesn't everyone land jobs this way?'
Ms Gamber has a vast amount of experience and has put in a vast amount of research to develop a working method for job hunting and especially job achieving.
Starting by clearing mental blocks that might be stalling your progress, she quickly moves into the nuts and bolts of targeting job titles and companies, doing in depth, and in house, research into these, and from there connecting with people already within your chosen industry.
From here it is a question of writing a resume and cover letter...but from the specific standpoint of marketing yourself, stating very clearly what you will be offering the company.
Written in a friendly, but extremely professional style, this book should be on every college program and in every library and bookshop in the section on career planning. Excellent.

Good history, Great Current Advice

Illusions of Wealth provides the reader with an excellent understanding of the situation we are in with the FED's effort to micromanage our economy with monetary policy...and what we can do to protect and improve our finances. Understanding the historical paths taken by the government and the FED helped me understand why it does what it does now...and how the fear of deflation is so strong that nothing will stand in the way to do what it can to prevent it. Doug provides straightforward advice on how to both protect one's finances and even better, gives practical answers on how to profit from both short term and long term market conditions. Does his advice work? I used Doug's ETF trading service with success and recommend it. His advice is consistent with what is in this book. That is a constant with Doug, his words and actions match.

A Remarkable Must Read.

I found Illusion of Wealth the most interesting book on financial matters I have read. Even though it was over 300 pages, I read it slowly to digest and mark up what I thought was important, yet I finished the book in less than a week. I am presently looking over what I thought was important (especially from the investment section) and making a plan on what to buy and invest in when the event Eberhardt expects happens. A friend of mine is also reading the book and he remarked that without question the research that Mr. Eberhardt did was nothing short of remarkable. The book is easy to read and I know in the near future I will re-read the entire book again.

About the Author
Jerome Schaufeld's wealth of experience in entrepreneurship, operations, and general management of technology-based companies ranges from his current role as Professor of Entrepreneurship at WPI to an assignment as a commercialization consultant at Children's Hospital in Boston. He served as Director of the RI Slater Fund, was President and CEO of Mass Ventures, and he has a "hands on" track record in several early-stage companies that ranges from functional to board-level advisory roles. He is a member of the Launch Pad Angel Group in Wellesley and Co-founder of the Cherrystone Angels in Rhode Island. In addition, Mr. Schaufeld is an advisor to the newly formed Boynton Angel group in Central Massachusetts, a charter member of the national Angel Capital Association (ACA), and a founder/ participant in the regional NE Angels ACA group. Mr. Schaufeld was a founder and the first Chairman of the MIT Enterprise Forum. He also founded the Incus Group, which is a CEO-level business acquisition and resource organization.Mr. Schaufeld was co-founder of Phoenix Controls Corporation. The company pioneered an approach to the control of air flow in critical laboratory and hospital environments and was successfully sold to a Fortune 500 company. With a graduate engineering degree, research experience at MIT, an MBA, professional engineer's license, and Professional Board Director's Certification, Mr. Schaufeld has a distinguished technical and operations-savvy managerial career. His current interest and research is in the area of improving the probability of success in early stage, innovative, technology-based ventures.

A Great Read that Addresses the Complexity of the Commercialization Decision

There is an overwhelming amount of innovation emerging from R&D departments around the world. Should it be commercialized just because the internal team thinks it's an innovation? Not that my tech manufacturing clients want to hear it, but the answer is often "no." It's been a long time since "if you build it, they will come" has worked. Now there is a way to get across the complexity of the commercialization decision and develop a roadmap for a likelier path to success. Jerry Schaufeld's book provides the tools needed to make this decision, regardless of the size of your company or industry. For example, his "commercialization cycle" helps us understand both the internal and external challenges at each stage, whether you're pre-investment, early stage, or series A. Is this the right idea for us to pursue, given our strategic goals? Is this an opportunity who's time has come? Do we understand the competitive environment? Do we understand the economic, technical, operational, and legal issues and risks? How long will it take us to get to break-even? Key issues are addressed in strategic planning, financial analysis, market demand, and operations. This is a great book that I recommend to clients and students.

New products and innovation are the lifeblood of our business and Prof. Schaufeld presents an elegant yet easy-to-follow roadmap that leads us through this process. There are many useful, golden nuggets to be found in the commercialization model that seem obvious only after the fact. I guess that’s what experience teaches. To my pleasant surprise, Commercializing Innovation is also an enjoyable read with many relatable examples. It will be a valuable guide for our product innovation team.

Clearly a seminal work because of its integrative perspectives on the subject. Well written; easy to follow; and avoids a lot of the complexities of a standard textbook on the subject. I will use it a my text in teaching a doctoral course for engineering managers at George Washington University.
