Kersh Is Amazing...

It's really a shame that more people don't know about this author. The truth is, I had never heard of him either until just a few months ago. I was looking for new authors to try out, and I found this collection, Men Without Bones, listed in Stephen King's "Danse Macabre" as an especially important contribution to the horror genre. Thank you, Stephen King. You've impressed me for the first time in years.
Gerald Kersh is perhaps my own personal greatest discovery in years. Not since reading Richard Matheson's short stories have I actually become giddy while reading an author for the first time. By the third story in this collection I was practically jumping up and down with joy. Along with Charles Beaumont and Clark Ashton Smith, Gerald Kersh is a writer who I had never heard of, and only had the chance to read because of blind luck. And now couldn't imagine living without.
Now, Gerald Kersh is not exactly a horror writer. Men Without Bones is a collection that includes many of his weirder writings, but few of his stories are out-and-out horror. You really can't put a pin in Kersh; he transcends any genre. If I had known that before I bought the book, I probably wouldn't have even taken the chance, as I have been reading horror short stories (mostly classics, as in stories ranging from 1900-1960) almost exclusively for the last four months. Well, that would have been the worst mistake of my reading career, so needless to say, Kersh is really THAT good.
I cannot make it any clearer than this: BUY THIS BOOK. If you have any liking for stories in the realm of Sci-Fi, Horror, Suspense, Speculative, or just plain Weird and Bizarre, then buy this book.
