Flying Wings

An excellent pictorial presentation of the Flying Wings; a fascinating part of aviation history. Pictures are clear and well-defined, some of which I had not seen previously.

A Great Photo History of Northrop's Flying Wing Aircraft

"The Flying Wings of Jack Northrop" is a really great book if you are looking for a value priced publication on the topic of these incredibly interesting flying machines. The book runs 77 pages and offers more of a photo history of Northrop advanced aircraft programs of the 1940s and 1950s. While more pages are devoted to the XB-35 and YB-49, the book does cover a variety of other projects ranging from the first N1M Flying Wing through to the N-25 and N-69 Snark Cruise Missle Programs.
The pictures are black and white, with color images appearing on the front and rear covers. Captions for the photos appear well researched and accurately written. Included at the beginning of each chapter is a brief few paragraphs of text to offer some additional historical insight on each of the aircraft to be discussed in that chapter. Line drawings appear through out as well, including a very nice one of the XP-56 Black Bullet.
All in all, this is a great book for those looking to learn more of Northrop's flying wing program of the 1940s. While the text may be too brief for some, it's still very informative, however do not expect to learn anything pertaining to the theory of flying wing flight, as the book does not get into such in depth topics. Had the book offered more color photos and been printed in America, it would have earned an easy five stars from this reviewer. This is still a great addition to the book shelf for any aviation enthusiast or modeler.
